The Student Room Confirms Higher Tuition Fees is Encouraging Students to Study Abroad
Following a survey of 1,252 students, undertaken by the world’s largest student site, The Student Room found 78% of students are more than happy to consider studying abroad.
The rise in tuition fees means students are demanding more from Universities and are searching abroad for Degree satisfaction. 79% view academic reputation as the most important, followed by employability of the degree (77.8%) and the student experience (72%).
Jamie O’Connell, Marketing Director at The Student Room said: “Despite the rise in fees demand for a place at university in the UK hasn’t abated. We have however seen students spending more time researching their decision and as a result are waking up to the fact that studying at an international institution is a viable option.”
“At the same time international universities are starting to proactively market their courses at UK students. We see this as a very positive evolution for students, choice is good and competition raises standards. There are many positives about studying overseas and students should be open-minded about getting a global education that equips them for a global workplace.”
The survey focused on applicants for the 2012 higher education entry, researching their view of studying overseas compared to studying in the UK under the new inflated fee system. These findings were split into two reports for Undergraduate and Postgraduate applicants, available from Insight.thestudentroom.co.uk/reports.
The Student Room (www.thestudentroom.co.uk) is the UK’s largest student community with 4.6 million unique visits per month from an audience of 14-26 year olds. Established 10 years ago it has grown to become THE community where students come to get advice from their peers and make important decisions about their education, get help with their studies, debate, have fun and make friends.
